The Invitation Letter of Attending Thanksgiving Retreat 2017

We know “Thanksgiving,” first of all, is a proper chance for us to have free time to turn back to reunite and pay a visit to families. In Buddhism, the “Thanksgiving” has come from the Buddha’ time. Indeed, when mentioning the “Thanksgiving,” we immediately think about duties and responsibilities for “Gratitude – Gratefulness,” or “Thankfulness” between this generation and previous generation, between living people and dead people, between givers and receivers, between transmitters and connectors, etc.
In Buddhism, the path of peace, enlightenment, and awakening, “Gratitude” has many different ways as follows:
/ Gratitude to grandparents and parents for their nourishment and giving birth to us.
/ Gratitude to the Buddha, the wonderful Dharma, and the Sangha.
3/ Gratitude to secular and spiritual teachers for their education.
/ Gratitude to friends and intellectuals.
/a. Gratitude to national heroes for their responsibilities to have founded and defended the country from ancient time until now;
5/ b
. Gratitude to nations where we were born, have grown up, cultivated, learnt, lived, and worked.
/ Gratitude to disciples, Monastics, and lay people for their duties to learn, understand, spread, protect the Dharma, and shine up the light of Dharma in the present and in the future right in the world.
7/ Gratitude to children and grandchildren for their ability to maintain the continuity of a family line, blood and spiritual families.
With the above specific meanings, in this year the Phap Nhan Temple will hold Thanksgiving Retreat on Saturday, November 25, 2017.
Please see and read the following schedule happily.

The Wholehearted Letter of being ordained as a Novice Monk

Merrick, NY - 7/3/2017
Dear, Bhante Thầy Thích Trừng Sỹ,

My name is Iziah I am a 22 year old American who wants to be a monk the rest of my life and devote my entire existence. Since I was a child I had a vision of me being a monk.
I’ve been practicing Buddhism for almost a year now but was raised by a mother who is Buddhist. I am ready to live the monastic life as a sign of love to my mother, The Buddha, The Dhamma, and the Sanga. I want rebirth. I want to leave this daily suffering life behind and become a monk to end the suffering and reach nirvana, True happiness, dedication, and spreading Metta.
I want to spread Buddhism all around the world. I want to devotee my life to the Buddhist way, by taking vows on doing compassionate deeds, striving to better humanity and seeking enlightenment. I want to take care of people. I want to build inner peace. I want to give back to the community. I want to serve the Buddha. From studying Buddhism I’ve learned the First Truth is that all life is suffering, pain, and misery. The Second Truth is that this suffering is caused by selfish craving and personal desire. The Third Truth is that this selfish craving can be overcome. The Fourth Truth is that the way to overcome this misery is through the Eightfold Path.
I will overcome any obstacle that comes in my path. I happily accept Bhante Thầy Thích Trừng Sỹ as my Master and to train me to become a monk. I want Bhante Thầy Thích Trừng Sỹ to train me because when I first met him at the Austin Temple, I knew automatically he was supposed to be my master. I wish for the Triple Gem to bless Bhante Thầy Thích Trừng Sỹ for accepting me as a student.

Bây Giờ Ở Đây - Here And Now

Thơ: Thầy Thích Trừng Sỹ
Phổ nhạc: Đức Hưng (P.D. Tâm Đức)

March 29, 2017

In the Morning I wake up,
I smile and recognize that
my eyes are still bright and I can see everything clearly around me,
my ears can hear everything clearly around me,
my nose breathes in and breathes out mindfully and consciously,
my tongue enjoys the Dharma pleasure,
my body feels peaceful, healthy, and well.
I forward my mind to the East, the West, the South, the North,
both the Above and Below directions,
I pray for all sentient beings and insentient beings living there
in peace, joy, love, and understanding together.

When I practice so regularly anywhere and anytime,
my mind gets imbued with the substance of  compassion, wisdom,
peace, and happiness to myself and to others
right here and right now in the present life.

May all living things and living beings on earth
be well and happy and freed from suffering.
